Happy second day of Summit!\u00a0 Holy buckets, yesterday was a busy day.\u00a0 But it was great.\u00a0 After the keynote I headed off to present my DBCC session which went well.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone that attended and to all of those who had questions and provided feedback.\u00a0 I am presenting again today, same time (10:15 AM PST) and same room (618-620), but this time it\u2019s Demystifying Database Statistics<\/a>.\u00a0 Statistics is another of my favorite topics, I expect the time will fly by just as it did yesterday.<\/p>\n

I just finished my PASS TV<\/a> interview which was short but fun and I am at the blogger\u2019s table again this morning, quite curious to see what the keynote brings.\u00a0 I know we will hear from Douglas McDowell<\/a>, Thomas LaRock<\/a> and Quentin Clark.\u00a0 Douglas and Thomas are Vice Presidents on the PASS Board of Directors<\/a> and Quentin is Corporate Vice President, SQL Program Management at Microsoft.<\/p>\n

And we\u2019re off\u2026<\/p>\n

8:22 AM Douglas takes the stage first and mentions that he ran into many people yesterday who could not decide what session to attend for a time slot, because there were multiple that were of interest.\u00a0 Douglas\u2019 suggestion?\u00a0 Buy the DVDs.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good recommendation, although remember that if you\u2019ve attended the Summit, you\u2019ll also have access to the sessions online.\u00a0 If you\u2019ll want to watch the sessions when you\u2019re not on the internet, you\u2019ll need to buy the DVDs.<\/p>\n

Douglas is talking about finance, as that\u2019s his role, and points out that this year they\u2019ve hired an additional Community Evangelist.\u00a0 Karla Landrum<\/a> was the first Community Evangelist, but she has been so busy that another person was needed.\u00a0 This past quarter Niko Neugebaur<\/a> was hired and I know he is thrilled about joining the team.\u00a0 Karla and Niko provide amazing support to the SQL Server community \u2013 if you see one of them this week please say thank you!<\/p>\n

Douglas has spent some time talking about the revenue and expenses for PASS. The Summit is the largest revenue generator for PASS \u2013 not surprising with over 3000 attendees here this week.<\/p>\n

8:35 AM Tom LaRock takes the stage and he gets to announce the PASSion Award Winner, who is Jen Stirrup<\/a>.\u00a0 Congratulations Jen!!<\/p>\n

Next year\u2019s Summit will be in Charlotte, NC, from October 15-18. Early registration<\/a> is already available at a very discounted rate.<\/p>\n

Tonight is the Community Appreciation Party<\/a> at Seattle\u2019s Experience Music Project and it starts at 7 PM (ends at 10 PM).\u00a0 I have never been to EMP and look forward to checking it out!<\/p>\n

8:55 AM Quentin Clark has taken the stage and now we\u2019re getting a demo of some new PDW functionality.\u00a0 I know that big data is a hot topic and of interest right now\u2026but I\u2019m still an engine girl at heart.\u00a0 Julie Strauss from Microsoft is on stage for a demo, and she\u2019s talking about movie data (I want that data).\u00a0 There\u2019s a side conversation with Quentin \u2013 there\u2019s obviously an ongoing joke about how it\u2019s hard for her to pronounce some words (she\u2019s a Viking).\u00a0 And then she says, \u201cWe don’t talk we just do.\u201d\u00a0 Love it.<\/p>\n
