T-SQL Tuesday is a blog party held the second Tuesday of each month.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

My regular class is on Tuesday mornings, but I sub for other instructors when my schedule allows.\u00a0 Teaching spin is big in some places \u2013 like Soul Cycle which some say started the whole spin craze \u2013 to the point where instructing is a full-time job and it includes benefits.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not in it for the money.<\/p>\n

The extra cash is nice, but what I love is watching people evolve, and get better.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a coach at heart.<\/p>\n

I have found that I love not thinking about how I\u2019m doing, but rather thinking about how to get someone else to do their best.<\/p>\n

This is why I teach<\/p>\n

Both spin, and SQL Server.\u00a0 Off the bike my favorite course is IE0, for the Accidental\/Junior DBA.\u00a0 The first day everyone is pretty quiet \u2013 they don\u2019t want to share what they don\u2019t know.\u00a0 By the last day everyone has realized that no one is an expert, and they will tell stories and ask the fun \u201cwhy\u201d questions.<\/p>\n

This happens in spin.<\/p>\n

People show up the first ride and they are afraid they\u2019ll be the worst rider in the room.\u00a0 A few rides later and they\u2019re asking questions about their bike set up, or sharing how they\u2019re feeling about class.\u00a0 Weeks, months, even years go by and you see those individuals get stronger, faster, more efficient\u2026and in some cases become instructors themselves.<\/p>\n

That happened to me.<\/p>\n

I started riding to become a stronger runner, but I found that I loved the dark room, loud music, and sanctity of the spin studio just as much as I loved the fresh air, sunshine, and the sound of my feet running.\u00a0 It is, at our studio, therapy on a bike.\u00a0 Some may scoff at the notion, others attend and find it isn\u2019t their thing.\u00a0 And that\u2019s cool.\u00a0 You do you, you find your thing and go all in, and spread that light wherever you can.\u00a0 But if you find yourself in Cleveland and you\u2019re up for a ride, let me know \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
