Since I wrote that post, Intel has announced the 12-core Intel Xeon Gold 6246, which is supposed to be available in Q2 2019.

I would’ve liked to see a 6246 CPU, to keep the license costs down. Will it be worth it to get the new version (6254) if we’re upgrading in 2-3 months?
