In order to record a nice, pretty demonstration of installing SQL Server 2012 on a test machine for one of my <a href=\"https:\/\/app.pluralsight.com\/profile\/author\/glenn-berry\">Pluralsight courses<\/a>, I decided to completely uninstall SQL Server 2012, and then reinstall it as I recorded it for the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>After I did that fresh installation, the SQL Agent Service would not start. All the normal troubleshooting measures gave me no immediate resolution.\u00a0 This was what the Windows Application Event Log had to say about it as shown in Figure 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlskills.com\/blogs\/glenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/clip_image002.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"clip_image002\" alt=\"clip_image002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sqlskills.com\/blogs\/glenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/clip_image002_thumb.jpg\" width=\"644\" height=\"409\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure 1: Windows Application Event Log Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This looked like a Windows Registry permission issue. Finally, I figured out that I needed to delete the old SQL Agent error log file (SQLAGENT.OUT), as shown in Figure 2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlskills.com\/blogs\/glenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/clip_image0025.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"clip_image002[5]\" alt=\"clip_image002[5]\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sqlskills.com\/blogs\/glenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/clip_image0025_thumb.jpg\" width=\"644\" height=\"345\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure 2: Windows Application Event Log Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After I did that, the SQL Agent Service started working just fine.
