It&#8217;s really good &#8211; discussing the following:<\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI>Guidelines for determining I\/O capacity<br \/>\n<LI>Disk configuration best practices and common pitfalls<br \/>\n<LI>Using SQLIO to determine capacity and interpreting its results<br \/>\n<LI>Using System Monitor to monitor an IO subsystem<\/LI><\/UL><br \/>\n<P>You can read it <a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/library\/Cc966412\">here<\/a> and I&#8217;ve added a link to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlskills.com\/whitepapers.asp\">whitepapers<\/a> page.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>While I&#8217;m on the subject of I\/O, Bob Dorr (A Senior Escalation Engineer in PSS) published a&nbsp;blog post last year that debunks a couple of urban legends around SQL Server&#8217;s IO, specifically:<\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI>The myth that SQL Server used one thread per data file<br \/>\n<LI>The myth that a disk queue length greater than 2 indicates an I\/O bottleneck<\/LI><\/UL><br \/>\n<P>Check out his blog post and the subsequent discussion&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/psssql\/archive\/2007\/02\/21\/sql-server-urban-legends-discussed.aspx\">here<\/a>.<\/P><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a new whitepaper on TechNet that I&#8217;ve just come across (even though it was published 6 months ago!) called Predeployment I\/O Best Practices.
