Just to let you know. The Portland (Oregon) SQL Server User Group has invited me to speak at the meeting on Thursday, Jan 24 at 6:30pm. I’ll be speaking on SQL Server service accounts, entitled “Who’s running my SQL Server services?”. I’ll be covering the evolution of service account choices and management in later versions of SQL Server and address how to manage these accounts and exactly what they control.
Full description of the talk and directions to the meeting are at the group’s website: http://pdxssug.com/. Hope to see you there!

Interesting subject and good for people who think SQL Server installation and configuration is about just few clicks!!
I wish I am in Portland to attend your session and meet you.
Wish you all the best my friend.

Thanks for your presentation last week! I just ran into an issue which would have mystified me a week ago. My 2012 server is throwing up DCOM errors insisting that the SQL Agent service account doesn’t have local activation rights to Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Server.DtsServer, except SSIS has been running flawlessly for months, so something is clearly working. The information you presented on Service SIDs has saved me from sending tons of time down the rabbit hole chasing this one, thanks!
I’m glad that the talk helped. Did you figure out what the problem was?
Cheers, Bob
